Many stories are told, but the main theme of the book is the example of valor demonstrated by Marine Corporal Jason Dunham, who died at the age of 22. After hand-to-hand combat with an Iraqi, Jason saved the lives of his men, by placing his helmet over a grenade. The ceremony for a fallen Marine is very moving.
