50 Great Flower Lessons in Watercolor
I have a lot of watercolor painting books and several on flower painting. This book is different from the others that I have in that it is a less formal style. Almost the entire book is devoted to teaching the 50 different two-page lessons, including how to draw the flower details such as a folded or twisted leaf or the bud's attachment to the stem, etc.. The author gives you a simple palette of between 4-8 basic colors for each painting. She tells you things to watch for and where to increase the tones, etc.
Each painting is also very different---some flowers are painted in a vase, whereas the next painting exercise may be of a group of flowers in the woods, or another of a close-up of one or two flowers---all done in a beautiful, colorful and loose style. It's a beautiful book and the exercises are fun and relaxing.
