Seller's Description:
Good. Good condition. A copy that has been read but remains intact. May contain markings such as bookplates, stamps, limited notes and highlighting, or a few light stains.
I liked this book as it portrays Africa as it was prior to WWI with all of it's beauty and mystery. In some ways, it parallels the life in the early American west in that the settlers were ill prepared for the difficulties and hardships they encountered. Their courage and resiliency was admirable and rewarding. The author, telling her own story and relating it through the eyes of a young girl makes it very insightful and compelling. Her comparisons and descriptions draws one into the pulse of the beautiful and savage land. Her close relationships with the natives, animals, family and friends gives her wisdom beyond her years. The wonderful style of writing in itself makes this a good read.
