The second edition of this work. Complete in two volumes. Half-title is present to each volume. Volume I illustrated with two folding maps, and five plates. Volume II illustrated with a frontispiece, four folding maps, one folding table, and five plates. Rebound in a modern cloth binding. Twenty-four pages of publisher's adverts to the rear of Volume II. An account of the expedition of the H.M.S. Dido to Borneo in the 1840s. This work recounts the 1843-44 campaign against Borneo pirates. It was during this expedition that the author met and became friends with James Brooke, who had been made rajah of Sarawak. Volume I discusses Brooke's time in Sarawak from 1838 to 1842, before he met Keppel. Volume II looks at the exploits of the two men together with Sir Edward Belcher. Written by Henry Keppel, a prominent Victorian Royal Navy officer. He was the commanding officer of the corvette of HMS Dido. With extracts from the journal of James Brooke. Rebound in a modern cloth binding. Externally, smart. A few light marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with the odd spot, spots a little heavier to the folding maps. Closed tear to the tail of the folding map to the rear of Volume I. Light tidemark to the head of the frontispiece of Volume II. Ink inscription and institutional stamp to the title pages. Institutional stamp to page one of each volume, and to a couple of pages of text. Small chip to the tail of the plate facing the dedication page of Volume I, not affecting image. Very Good Indeed.
