This continuing series about an 1850's "Railway Detective" working out of the recently created Scotland Yard features a Sherlock Holmes type Inspector and his faithful assistant, a sgt.
I have read the complete series, and the most appropriae word to describe this welcome addition is "charming". The author captures the sense and spirit of the period without bogging down in the stilted prose of the era. There is a budding romance, adventure, first rate sleuthing and just plain enjoyment.
