Seller's Description:
VG+, previous owner; s stamp on ffep. Portfolios are in poor condition, but their contents are VG or better. 3/4 black leather with vellum cloth covers. Five raised bands. T.e.g. xxxvii, 167 pp. no illustrations. Three oversized and heavy portfolios containing the sheets with over 1000 tipped-in reproductions. Vol. 1 contains the 10-page introduction by Royal Cortissoz, followed by the lengthy notes on Whistler, his etchings and this publication written by Kennedy. This is followed by a complete listing and description of the etchings and states, listed chronologically. There is a short appendix following this. The three oversized portfolios (original delivery methods for the sheets) are in awful condition. They have done a superb job of protecting the contents, however. Laid in at the beginning of the first portfolio are a group of additional sheets (images) and accompanying text sheets describing these additional images and suggesting where they should be inserted into the original sheets. Extremely rare, as such. Includes a recent collation of the three portfolios listing the plate No., number of versions of that plate, and any notes. Shipping weight is 58 pounds.
