Makes ecologists come alive
This book is an entertaining overview of life as an ecologist working in the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest. Written primarily for middle school students, it is readable for advanced elementary students and interesting for adults. The book tracks through a series of stories the research projects of a group of scientists attempting to understand by joining forces how a forest ecosystem in New Hampshire works. We see the challenges and excitement that face scientists learning about birds, insects, trees and plants, soils, the chemistry and waterflow characteristics of streams and lakes, and how different kinds of forestry practices affect the nearby streams and remaining forest plants and animals.
A very interesting read and recommended for adults as well as budding student ecologists.
