In center, a mullet surrounded by 5 foliate designs in relief. From near site of old Fort William Henry, Lake George, 'N. T. Possibly a button of the French War; but the whole region was occupied militarily during that and the War of American Revolution. 7 Militia (?); filled; convex; bronze; 15. Probably made in France. From old works at Crown Point, N. T. 8 Militia ( ?); solid; flat; bronze; 20. 9 stars in lines crossing diagonally. From Plattsburg, N. Y. Probably 13 stars when in perfect state, for the 13 United Colonies. Donated by a resident of Plattsburg who may have procured it elsewhere. Plattsburg was only a lonely settlement during the Revolution, but ever since that war it has been an important military post. 9 Militia (?); solid; flat; pewter; 18. Surface lettered "LI BER TY" in 3 lines. From Niagara frontier. 1784-1811. During the early part of this period the army was small in number, but when the expected war with France seemed imminent it was considerably increased. Buttons for the infantry and general service were probably all of domestic manufacture while the yellow metal buttons for the staff, artillery and navy were largely imported plain and the design engraved or stamped thereon.
