This first volume of Margaret Thatcher's memoirs, which encompasses the entirety of her career as Prime Minister. Margaret Thatcher was the towering figure of late-twentieth-century British politics. This is the story of her remarkable life in her own words. This first volume of her memoirs is a riveting first-hand portrait of the events and personalities of her eleven years in power. She recalls the triumphs and the critical moments of her premiership - the Falklands War, the miners' strike, the Brighton bomb, the Westland Affair and her unprecedented three election victories. Her judgements of the men and women she encountered, whether world statesmen or Cabinet colleagues, are astonishingly frank. She is lavish with her praise; devastating with her criticism. The book reaches a gripping climax with an hour-by-hour description from inside 10 Downing Street of her dramatic final days in office. Margaret Thatcher's compelling account stands as a powerful testament to her influential legacy. Although 'The Downing Street Years' is not available as an ebook, the ebook 'Margaret Thatcher: The Autobiography' (ISBN 978-0-00-741694-3) comprises abridged versions of this and the first volume of Thatcher's memoirs, 'The Path to Power'.

Large format paperback(a couple of small scratches, nicks and crease on the cover) in near fine condition. Illustrated with colour, b/w photos. Nice and clean pages as new with a small mark, ink mark and light shelf wear on the outer edges, a couple of small creases and nicks on the edges of the pages, very small mark on the edge of the last page of the book. Nice and clean book with light shelf wear.922pp including List of illustrations, chronology, the cabinet and other offices, list of abbreviations, index. A collectable first edition-first printing. Heavy book(appox 1.2 Kg). This is another paragraph From Library Journal: Fans of Britain's first woman prime minister may have already purchased this fact-filled but ultimately self-serving memoir. Key events of Thatcher's 11-year reign--the alliance with Reagan, the Falklands/Malvinas War, the 1984-1985 miners' strike, conflict within the European Community, and so on--are described in exhaustive detail. There is little attempt to provide a balanced or subtle portrait of a controversial administration. Although, for the most part, the book's prose style is rather pedantic, Thatcher's unique personality nevertheless shines through. The gist of her approach is conveyed in the chapter titles--The World Turned Right Side Up, Disarming the Left, No Time To Go Wobbly. Yet even Thatcher's harshest critics will find this book informative and revealing. The book contains over 50 photographs, some in color. A second volume, devoted to her life prior to the 1979 election that brought her to No. 10 Downing Street, is promised.

In the description of the book it was never mentioned that there was page that had a note with a signature on it. This was to be a Christmas gift. I was so disappointed> I would not trust buying a book from this person again. I feel that this omission was very dishonest.
