She had close relationships with Lady Byron, the Brownings, Catherine Sedgwick, George Eliot, Fanny Kemble and others. She was very concerned with the legal and educational lot of women and this, her first book, originally issued as A Lady's Diary (1825) is a fictional travelogue of a broken-hearted governess.
