VG+ in VG jacket. Octavo. Bright green cloth covered boards and spine with shiny gilt lettering on the spine. Plenty of bumping at the head and tail of the spine and light bumping at the tips of the two front outside corners. Very slight soiling at the extreme tips of the four outside corners. Light cream colored endpapers. Binding is straight and tight. Light dust stain to the upper edge (and to a lesser extent the outside and lower edge) of the textblock. Pages inside are the same light cream color as the endpapers, and are clean and crisp. Frontis portrait of the Countess Tolstoy. Translated from the Russian by Alexander Werth. 272 pages. Dust Jacket is a relatively brittle yellow paper jacket that is mostly covered with light smudges and fingerprints from handling over time. 2" closed tear in the lower edge of the front cover and a 2 1/2" semiclosed winding tear in the upper edge of the rear cover. The upper and lower edges of the jacket have some other smaller closed tears and chipping, the chipping mostly at the corners. Spine portion of the jacket is darkened to a tan color, but the lettering is still clear and easy to read. Not clipped.
