Each text, in its way, is unorthodox or marginal, certainly experimental in form and theme." -- Derek Hand, James Joyce Quarterly "In The Evolutions of Modernist Epic , Paris proved to be a true comparatist by bypassing all the artificial limitations and boundaries of various genres, concepts, and ideologies such as Darwinism, epic and world literature in order to analyze personal and unique "evolutions" of individuals represented in selected modernist works. This excellent book gives summary and photographs of the lives of jazz and blues artists. The Jazz Society of Pensacola has one in its reference library for use of the members. We also purchased one for a collaborative project with the Pensacola Public Library System for their collection. This project with the local public library is an on going one and the current collection of jazz books, CDs and videos is valued at $15,000. We are pleased to have the Definitive Illustrated Encyclopedia of Jazz and Blues in the collection.
