To Robert Koch, of Berlin, a physician, belongs the credit of discovering and of proving absolutely its cause, namely, the bacillus tuberculosis. While it is perfectly true that this has not yet led to the hoped-for results in the cure of the disease, yet all must admit that the discovery of the cause of any disorder is the first step toward its cure.
