This is a thorough and scholarly discussion of the status of and proposed reforms for current American education, clarifying the controversial issues of big money, faulty logic, constitutionality, and flawed methodology used in various reform attempts. It is fully documented and written by one who was in on the reform efforts at the beginning, then changed her mind. It contains all the arguments opposing vouchers, charter schools, No Child Left Behind, and other ideas proposed by those who have never taught in your ordinary public school classroom.

Not Just for Educators
If you are a teacher I highly recommend you pick up this book. But if you are a parent, not a teacher, but you have school age children, I think you will find much in this book informative and relevant. It spells out, very clearly, how both the Bush educational plan (No Child Left Behind) and the Obama plan (Race to the Top) are weakening our public schools, not strengthening them. And I hope it will encourage you to demand real education from your schools and not just meaningless test scores and the illusions of "market based education."
