Excellent Read
I am biased as I am a direct descendant of Gideon Howland who was the beloved grandfather of Silvia Anne Howland who was Hetty's aunt and whose will caused Hetty such grief. This book however is a tremendous read and a great story surrounding one of the strangest and most fascinating families of the turn of the 20th century and the early 1900s. You can't make up the characters, and having heard legends and stories passed down from my family about these folks and reading about these same stories fleshed out I can guarantee the accuracy and was wowed by the eloquence of their presentation in this book. I've been reading a lot lately and this book stacks up with the best of the best I've read in the last several years.
