This book has got a lot in it, slender as it is. A fast easy fun read.
I recently heard a conservative with some credibility (close to an oxymoron these days, and if I could remember who it was, this one wouldn't have any with me any more) who was offended that Sarah Palin was being compared to Quayle, said that it was unjust to him because he was much more intelligent than he ever got credit for.
This seemed possible - I could only remember two particular bloopers, one of which was pretty awful but any tired person could have a random neural firing that could not otherwise be defended, and the other was the potato incident, which I believe could have happened to anyone (and because we were in the midst of the 2008 race and I was so distracted, I forgot that Quayle managed to get into a back-and-forth feud with a fictional character [Murphy Brown] and lost.)
This book is in the format of a quiz, and a couple of times the answer was the straightforward, unembarrassing one - in this book, those were in the nature of trick questions - but often the answer (usually something he said or something that was said about him, often by friends and colleagues) was the one that was so awful, so damaging you thought it couldn't possibly be that one.
Apparently even those who like him don't think he's the brightest light on the porch
Should be enjoyable to anyone interested in politics, whatever their leaning, as long as fierce partisanship doesn't displace a sense of humor.
