Sarah Clare Raven (born 1963) is an English gardener, cook and writer. Raven graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a degree in history and then trained as a doctor at the University of London. The gardener Christopher Lloyd, a near-neighbor at Great Dixter, described Raven in the mid-1990s as "really energetic and creative...promot[ing] a more dynamic and showy style of gardening than has been fashionable for many years". Raven's publications include The Cutting Garden, The Bold and Brilliant Garden, The Great Vegetable Plot, Sarah Raven's Garden Cookbook (U.S. title: In Season) which was named Cookery Book of the Year by the Guild of Food Writers in 2008. and A Year Full of Flowers which describes her garden at Perch Hill in Sussex. In 2011, she published a monumental book on Wild Flowers, with photographs by Jonathan Buckley, who has worked with her on most of her books. A BBC2 television series called Bees, Butterflies and Blooms, focusing on the national decline in pollinating insects and championing nectar-rich flowers as a way of saving them, was broadcast in February 2012. She presented an episode of Great British Garden Revival which aired on BBC Two in 2014. Sissinghurst: Vita Sackville-West and the Creation of a Garden was published in November 2014. Pia Tryde had a long career as a model before deciding to study photography. Since then, she has contributed to numerous books and magazines, photographing everything from fashion and food to interiors and gardens. Penelope Hobhouse MBE (born 20 November 1929), née Chichester-Clark, is a British garden writer, designer, lecturer and television presenter. Hobhouse walked through Tuscany and taught herself gardening by examples of the Tuscan villa gardens she saw; she went on to be a garden writer and designer, publishing many books on the subject. She started work at Hadspen House, Somerset until leaving in 1979. In 1980 she and her husband Prof. John Malins moved into Tintinhull Gardens. The garden's former designer Phyllis Reiss was said to have had a strong influence of Hobhouse. Until 1993 she was in charge of Tintinhull House's gardens also in Somerset. In 1996 she hosted a television series for Home & Garden Television in the USA. Her publications include; Color in Your Garden, Plants in Garden History, Penelope Hobhouse on Gardening', Penelope Hobhouse's Garden Designs, and Penelope Hobhouse's Natural Planting. She is an associate editor of Gardens Illustrated magazine. She has taught at the University of Essex.
