Picked this up at a local bookstore in Palm Beach not really expecting much. But at two in the morning, I couldn't stop reading! It is the story of a pious woman who led a secret double life (I don't want to give too many spoilers!).
The authors did a clever job of blending the facts of the case from family documents and old newspapers into a novel that lets you ride on the shoulder of the protagonist, a young woman reporter who suddenly finds herself intertwined with this woman and her odd family - they reminded me of the Addams family come to life!
What follows is so unbelievable, especially for the 1920s. The case made national headlines at the time, and you can see why.
The end was so clever and left me breathless...it was truly the "Last Word" as the chapter was titled and brought the story full circle.
Even though this is a book based in Florida, readers who love mystery and "why done it" style stories will enjoy this book immensely!
