Right from the beginning we decided that this was to be a very subjective look at creativity in Yorkshire. As a result we've only included things that we like. If we journeyed to the other end of the county to see something which did nothing for us, it was left out. For the most part we have not included work to be found in larger art galleries and museums; our mission was to track down works that are less well known. We make no apologies for our enthusiastic use of adjectives in our descriptions. There's some fantastic work to be found in Yorkshire and we hope we've done justice to what we've included. You'll also notice that there are a fair number of churches featured: it would have been easy to fill this book with nothing else but the artwork found in them. We've had to pick and choose the objects that particularly appealed to us, to make sure there was room for other works too. Everything we've written about is accessible to the public - even if it's only once a year on Heritage Open Days. We hope you get as much pleasure as we have from the wide variety of creative work to be found in Yorkshire. Trish Colton and Diane Holloway
