He toured and lectured widely, and was praised by several contemporaries for both his oratory and written works. In examining the texts within this volume, we realize how well they corroborate Bounds' reputation as a serious, wise and intense servant of God. Said by associates to never utter foolishness, and to take meals and awaken early each day mindful of the Lord, Bounds was occasionally referred to by his acquaintances as an 'Eagle of God' for his steadfast attitude and lifestyle. His seriousness was accompanied by passionate sermons where he was frequently moved to emotional displays. E. M. Bounds was by all accounts a preacher of great ability and grace. All of the books herein have acquired a doughty reputation as referential guides possessed of a great usefulness and profundity. The Christian believer and scholar alike will be pleased to find a wealth of contemplative material, rich in historical and theological referencing. In writing these works, E. M. Bounds draws upon the Gospel texts and events, plus several of Christianity's most revered Saints. His immense study and education in Christian and Biblical history and canon is on full display, with each book backed with authoritative study and years of contemplation. After E. M. Bounds' departed from the mortal coil in 1913, his manuscripts were carefully compiled by Reverand Claudius (Claude) Lysias Chilton, Jr., who had the following to say about the writings whose introduction to the world he supervised: "These books are unfailing wells for a lifetime of spiritual water-drawing. They are hidden treasures, wrought in the darkness of dawn and the heat of the noon, on the anvil of experience, and beaten into wondrous form by the mighty stroke of the divine.
