Five raised bands on spine with elaborate gilt devices in five of the six panels and gilt title in one panel. Tail of spine has "LOND. 1845". Gilt inner dentelle borders; binding signed "Bound by Riviere & Son" at bottom inside edge of front cover. Top edges gilt. Deckle fore and bottom edges. Black and white illustrated plates by Robert Cruikshank. Dark blue-green coated endpapers. Black and white frontispiece. Includes the story "The Iron Mask, an Episode" at the back. NOT ex-library. Leather lightly worn at corners and spine ends; rubbed through on a few tips. Covers have light surface and edge wear with a few very light smudges. Pages lightly and uniformly tanned but still supple. A few small notations in pencil on front and back flyleaves. Pages clean and unmarked. A few pages have very sparse foxing. 640 pages. Also bound in at rear; Thin, light blue original paper covers from Part III, March 1844 of the Chronicles. No dust jacket. Carefully packed, shipped in a box. First Edition. Leather bound.
