This lectureship was not designed as an arena where emulating sages should show their prowess, but as an Opportunity for counsel and ad vice from veterans to the new recruits; and with the deep interest and affection that such a relation be speaks, and a due sense of the responsibility involved, I trust I may have grace to address you. As preliminary to this course of thought, I would essay to correct some common errors in the use of words, Which have much in uence in forming current ideas and establishing false conclusions.
