This is the first book in the Chocoholic mystery series featuring female-sleuth Lee McKinney. Lee lives in Warner Pier, a small Michigan resort town. Lee is staying with her aunt Jeannette TenHuis (known as Aunt Nettie) and is working as a bookkeeper for the family business TenHuis Chocolade.
The opening chapters find Lee and Aunt Nettie preparing to deliver a special order of handmade chocolate truffles to high-powered attorney Clementine Ripley. Ms. Ripley has a purebred cat, and so Aunt Nettie has made several chocolates in the shape of a cat by using a special mold she previously ordered from the Netherlands.
Unfortunately Ms. Ripley is later found dead with a chocolate truffle in her hand. So Lee goes to work to try to figure out who poisoned Ms. Ripley.
Author JoAnna Carl includes a lot of factual information on chocolate in this book. There is a lot of trivia about chocolate and also a chocolate quiz (answers are provided).
The book was quite enjoyable and I?ll definitely be reading more in this series.
