Very Good- Woodcuts; 16mo 6"-7" tall; Uniformly bound 4 volumes in 2. 16mo in ribbed green cloth with rules and decorative borders in blind to boards, triple ruled bands and titles in gilt to spine. Variously published by Charles Knight and C. Cox with Vol I showing an 1851 date and C. Cox masthead while the other 3 volumes bear 1845/46 Knight publishing details. Likely bound in 1851 by Cox after he assumed responsibility of publication. Snugly bound and clean; shallow chip to the cloth at crown of volume I/II. Uniform light browning to cloth at spines. Large "literary society" bookplates of an east coast college are mounted to the front pastedowns. Mild fray to the cloth along the rear spine edge of Vol III/IV. Illustrated with some 55-60 woodcuts in text. Nice uniformly bound set includes the Supplementary Volume [IV].
