Reading ââ?¬Å"The Cash Cache Mystery,ââ?¬Â? part of A Case Twins Adventure series by Dorian Rockwood, reminded me of classic peachy titles of the past, such as Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys series, only this time, more contemporary with modern-day perspectives. In this second installment in the series, Rockwood introduces us into yet another rollicking mystery involving Dan and Paul Case, two seventeen-year-old twins, as they pursue an elusive villain. What started as an act of compassion for the two by offering a lift to a helpless- looking man in their ex-army jeep would lead to an expected arrival of private investigator, Roy Archer at their doorstep. Turns out the hitchhiker was Eddie Ridgway, a former convict who had been convicted of fraud and tax evasion and a former bookkeeper for a Chicago-based mobster.
Ridgway, they learn, is on a mission to collect the money he had hidden from these illegal dealings and a huge compensation awaits those who find him. Dan and Paul begin the pursuit of Ridgway but soon come to the realization that they are not the only ones after the grand prize. Two villainous brothers, Wilbur and Gimpy Dalton, have joined the trail and the twins find their paths frequently colliding. With their lives constantly in danger, their real challenge becomes finding ways to stay alive, having to match their wits and amateur sleuth skills to achieve this.
With an endearing set of protagonists, ââ?¬Å"The Cash Cache Mysteryââ?¬Â? will enthrall voracious readers of the mystery genre, teens and adults alike. Natural dialogue and a rich adventure arc are what is likely to move readers most, along with the suspenseful chapter endings that will keep you turning the pages. Despite their slightly clashing personalities that make them pick at each other often, Dan and Paul are a close duo, resilient and brave, and are bound to spur a fascination for twins.
The book starts off slowly, but I understood this factor as the author gave us ample time to familiarize ourselves with the characters, learn their quirks and temperaments through effective back stories, even drawing our attention to their relationships with other characters. As the book builds, it gains strong momentum and sustains this pace throughout. An intriguing yarn, ââ?¬Å"The Cash Cache Mystery: A Case Twins Adventureââ?¬Â? by Dorian Rockwood will take you through plenty of twists and turns, a worthy feature which secures its spot in the mystery genre.
