Was Hauptmann guilty or the victim of anti-immigrant bias? Did Lindbergh himself have something to do with the death of his son? How much did the various police forces 'doctor' the evidence? Some of the questions raised by this book that may never be answered.|
One interesting aspect was Lindbergh's apparent joking. Did he plan another one of his 'funny practical jokes' only to have a tragic accident? Why would a man of his stature have hidden his son in another prank? Hardly seems like a joke.
But how did Hauptmann get all the marked money if he weren't involved in the thing? If innocent, why did he go to the death chamber without great protest?
Anyway, a good read, a great mystery and an intrigue without end.
