There is no doubting that Dostoyesvsky is one of the greatest literary minds that any person can read. The Brothers Karamazov is a great story for one reason, its characters. It is truly rare to find an author who presents characters as dynamic as these. The complexity of the plot and the characters are so creatively made that as a reader, you have the ability to literally hate some characters, while appreciating the innocence of others.
This book does have its down sides however. The book itself is very long in that what dostoyevsky could have written in 20 pages, he write in 100. So at times, especially around pages 200 - 500, the book lags somewhat and there is the temptation to put the book down. This, however, still does not take away from the ability he has to make a book unintetionally interactive.
One final point, is that the ending is upsetting and leaves you wondering what happens next, and not in a good way like a mystery novel does.
Overall this is an excellent book in that it is to be appreciated as a whole and not for the minute details of the text.
