Harry Supple was spared a written notice of his fault, in consideration of his proper acceptance of reproof, though, I believe, he received no ptcscnt. The old gentleman, I found, had placed my cap on the large china bowl of the respected Dutch merchant, which he had caused to be carefully cemented, and though one side is not nearly so sound as the other, tho venerable piece of antiquity shows to great advantage on state occasions. Inside the bowl I found a handsome silver pencilcase, and I had no reason to suppose Uncle Barnaby had treated me less liberally than the most favoured of his little relatives, who were, I think, very well satisfied. Having cordially tokon leave of our kind cDttr tainer, wo left his hospitable home, and that ended Im first visit to my Uncle; during iidiicu, though I had through carelessness often exposed myself to censure, I found I had riseu to. a high place in his estimation. By pursuing a straightforward course, I have received much kjndnt8 from him subsequently; and sonje.of rny friendB congratulate me on my future pjjospocts, from the marked politeness shown me by my Uncle's lawyer. The present advanced ago of my Uncle, with its attendant infirmities, have renelered him incapable of entertaining all his former guests, who are, alas! no longer young; but the sight of a member of the family at his own table, still iloes the kind-hearted old gentleman good. Sometimes he will allow a man-servant, the last addition to his household, to drive the successor to the old pony in a carriage, in which my Uncle seats himself, over to my little cottage. There he amuses himself by training a rose, obtained originally from " The Snuggery, ..".
