The Book of Love was a serious attempt by Air Supply to regain their position as pre-eminent adult contemporary artists. That alone makes the album worthwhile, but it doesn't excuse the uneven songwriting. There's a few songs that are sparkling updates of the Air Supply formula -- "So Much Love" and "When I Say" both are lush, appealingly melodramatic and sappy ballads that work -- but there are more that simply fall flat.
