From the Creation to the death of Joseph, here is the Book of Genesis, revealingly illustrated as never before. Peeling away the theological and scholarly interpretations that have often obscured its most dramatic stories, Crumb--using the actual text word for word--has imagined the Bible as it really was.

I learned of this book while reading an interview with Mr. Crumb. As a follower of his work since the 60's I was excited to read about the project. He expressed his intent to do his best to honor the original text and didn't disappoint. Believers and scholars may find fault but as a fan of the artist the book is a treasure, well printed and bound. My copy arrived promptly in excellent condition and will remain a treasured addition to my library. If you love R Crumb's work get it.

R Crumb at his best
If you like R Crumb's comic illustrations you will be pleasantly surprised at this take on the Book of Genesis. It is both beautifully and reverently told story in his unique style and emphasis. I will keep this book as one of my treasured possessions.

Get This Book!
Fabulous! He took the exact words of the Book of Genesis and drew a picture of the words. No interpretations; nothing silly. It really makes you look clearly and carefully at the words of this book that has influenced so many for so long. He's a great, cheery artist.

If this book were stripped of the intro and wrapped in plain black covers, it could be planted in any church or sunday school and be taken as - well, gospel. It is an amazing treatment of Genesis, faithful to the story yet as it is so often with Crumb's cartooning, one sometimes cannot separate serious from put-on. While he resisted giving Mr Natural or Flakey Foont roles, his characters are still all the more believable for his caricaturizations.

Amazing Crumb
As a fan of R. Crumb's work since the "head shop" days of the 1970s, I am amazed to find this new work, a sentence-by-sentence rendering of the Book of Genesis. I've already recommended it to a pastor friend of mine. If you're into theology, Crumb, art, or cartooning, you'll love it.
