excellent storyline
Terry Brooks has a way of making a reader become immersed in his worlds. Ben Holliday has misfortunes, family tragedy and seeks a way to leave his life as a lawyer and seek a peace for himself. He discovers a catalogue that offers the chance to own a fairy kingdom. It beckons him and he succumbs to it's pull. He discovers Landover a land he buys and becomes king over. He meets and falls for a beautiful woman named Willow even though she has green hair and at times takes root in the soil to become a tree.
A talking dog that had been human until a semi-skilled wizard accidentally turns him into a rakishly dressed terrier and kobolds who not only cook but serve him as trackers on his travels.
The Black Unicorn can be read a a single episode or as one of the books in the series of episodes that make Landover and the living castle of Sterling Silver home and challenge for Ben Holliday. Friends from 10 to 65 have read the series and fallen in love with the characters and the search for the Black Unicorn that causes so much trouble, challenges from sprites, fairies, goblins, a dragon and disappearing friends for Ben.
I can only suggest that if you want a chance to escape into a world that many wish really did exist, this is one book of the series that will keep you enchanted, thrilled and ready to look for a catalogue of wishes of your own.
