Beneath white, with the upper part of the breast and sides of throat and body with triangular spots of rufous, and a few smaller ones of blackish on the middle of the breast. Inner edges of quills and tail feathers tinged with rufous pink. No light lines on the head, but a patch of rufous on the cheeks. First quill rather less than the fifth. Hind too about equal to its claw. Length, about 7.50; wing, 3.50. Hn.b.--Eestern United States to the Mississippi. Sometimes the entire head above is reddish like the back. Good. No Jacket. 4to. Two volumes, with first being text, and second containing 100 hand colored lithographs. Rebound, retaining original boards. Dark burgundy leather over spines, with gold lettering. Edges are original covers are worn. Scattered light wear and aging. Lightly inked name, date (1872), and notations in blank space near top of title page. Tissue guards between plates have been affixed, in three small points along outside edges, to the blank versos of the preceding plate. Many guards have torn and loosened, though this does not affect plate images. There is very light soiling affecting upper edge of first 25 plates, though remaining outside of borders. Images remain bright and clean. Due to size and weight, extra postage will be required for priority or international mail.
