Seller's Description:
Fair. 1949 printing of a 1939 copyright. REAR HINGE IS CRACKED. Pages are tanned and have stray marks. Binding is loose. Cover is bumped and rubbed with cardboard exposed on corners. Not a pretty copy but still a good reference. Booksavers receives donated books and recycles them in a variety of ways. Proceeds benefit the work of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) in the U.S. and around the world.
I first purchased a copy of this book in the 1970's. True it is a bit dated in its writing (e.g. it refers to Islam as Mohammedism) but that did not detract from its appeal because the texts of Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity, and so on are after all already old yet timeless in many ways.
What I was struck by was the common ground in many of the faiths. Too often people of one Faith will pitch their's against others. This book avoids such comparisons but provides an impartial examination of many of the world's holy writings. In this respect it is truly unique and serve as a good nucleus for a study of comparative religion.
