A long inscription signed by the editor (dated January 23, 2004) on first free endpaper. Deep purple binding, black lettering, several vintage illustrations. Condition: Hardcover has small bump to corner of top cover, several age/sun streaks on fore-edge, else overall Near Fine. Free of cracked or torn binding, stickers, bookplates, writing in text, and page tears. Dustjacket: Light shelf wear, creases at extremities, else overall Near Fine. Book kept in temperature-controlled bookcase, free of damp/humidity smells and the smell of a smoker. A nice first edition, inscribed and signed by the author. Book chronicles the life of a northern textile manufacturer (born in 1816) who traveled to Georgia to seek a profitable career. He first went to work at a mill in Roswell Georgia, then established his own business. He later established two Georgia mills in Clarke and Greene counties and received national recognition for the high quality of his textiles.
