Size: 8x6x1; Presumed early printing of first ed. although there is no edition statement on the copyright page, or indication of the printing--1937 is on the lower margin of t.p. and copyright date is given as 1937; definitely not BOMC; 677 p., clean and unmarked; former owner's book plate on front paste down; beautiful drawings in color and b&w by author illustrate text that is erudite with a touch of whimsy--sample: "The Art of Egypt. A country in which the living played the game of 'let's pretend' with the dead. '; " binding firm although there is the beginning of a crack between the list of other works of the author and a blank front end page; illustrated end papers give helpful timeline; unfaded red boards with still clear gilt lettering and pictorial label on spine have minimal wear, having been very well protected by pictorial d.j. that is sunned on edges and on spine, and some rubbing at crown and a little rubbing at crown and foot of spine panel and at corners.
