Good. 56 pp. Fourth Thousand. Original paper wraps, fc inscribed "George S. Hillard Esq, Boston, with the Author's respects". Copyright page ihas pencil notation "1851 Sept 10 Gift of Hon George S. Hillard of Boston". A plea for the holding together of the Union and against secession. Hillard, who apparently gave the book to a library, was an attorney, legislator and author, served as a member of the Senate and was U. S. Attorney before retiring to private law practice. Both covers have separated from the spine and are loose but still present. Brown paper covers are bit grubby, front corner chipped away, spine chipped, back cover has long 2" wide lack plus many chips and has come off but is still present. Interior has a small damp stain at the bottom of the gutter, 2 minor what look like library notations on the title, some creasing to the interior pages, but interior sound and clean, block sound and tight. Very scarce with the covers.; Limited Edition; 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall; Signed by Author.
