The tank K is fitted with a window so that the color of the distillate may be observed and the distribution of the products controlled, the different qualities being directed into their respective tanks by opening the proper cocks. Taps are fitted to the bottoms of the U-tube and of the tank A', for running-off sediment. 1,000 Imp. gal. of a product having a specific gravity of 0.756 are to be distilled, and the distillation is to be conducted at the rate of 100 gal. per hoar, then 1,000,260 B.t.a. 7-560 lb. of product X 133-5F., the latent heat of evaporation of the fraction having a specific gravity of 0.756, must be removed from the vapors in order to condense them to a liquid having a temperature of 175T., the boiling point of the fraction. If the condensate is to be coded to 60T., 443,741 thermal units 7.560 X (175-60) X 0-5104, the specific heat must also be removed. Since the distillation is to require 10 hr., the number of thermal units per hour to be absorbed by the condenser will amount to 145,300 K 1,009,260 + 443,741) 4-10. As 145,300 units are to be absorbed, 4,843 lb. (145,300-30) or...
