None. Near Fine in Good jacket. A first edition copy of 'The Age of Longing' by Hungarian-British author and journalist Arthur Koestler. In the original publisher's green cloth binding, complete with a pictorial unclipped dustwrapper. Koestler, originally a member of the Communist Party of Germany, resigned and distanced himself from the political movement in 1938 after becoming disillusioned by Stalinism. In light of this dramatic personal and political change, he published his first novel, an anti-totalitarian work, 'Darkness at Noon' in 1938, that gained him international fame. Koestler went on to publish many essays, memoirs and novels, including 'The Age of Longing' critiquing or espousing various political causes. For his efforts, he was was awarded the Sonning Prize in 1968, and in 1972 he was made a CBE, a 'Commander of the Order of the British Empire'. In a green cloth binding with original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, excellent condition. Slightly bumped to head and tail of spine. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean, slightly age toned to edges. The odd light spot throughout. Dustwrapper, generally smart. Sunned to spine. Marking to rear of wrap. Chipped to the head and tail of spine. Small loss to paper wraps at head and tail of spine. Small loss to upper extremity of front wrap and lower extremity of rear wrap. Near Fine.
