This volume gathers together all of George Bataille's writings on surrealism. Mostly dating from the immediate postwar period, these essays and polemics clarify Bataille's links with the surrealist movement and throw light on his complex relationship with its founder, Andre Breton. They also show Bataille to be a much more radical figure than many of his present-day academic devotees believe - a man who continually tried to extend and refine Marxist social theory.
