I have been waiting for this one ever since David Poyer began his excellent Civil war series. Many of the characters have become old shipmates. I like them and I like the way David writes. He tells a good sea story; I just wish he would begin them with "This is no ...", but we can't have everything can we? His knowledge of the USN, be it a 1970's FRAM I Gearing or THE MONITOR is first rate. I only hope he finds a way to transfer his heroes to an Eads River gunboat soon. For what it?s worth David, I lived "The Circle" and wonder if we were shipmates? I strongly recommend this book and David's other Sea stories.
