Having read a number of history-of-philosophies, I have found none more cogent, clear or helpful than G.H. Clark's. The fact that Clark comes at the subject from the perspective of solid and consistent Christian faith only enhances the book's value. If you share his faith, you'll not find a more sympathetic partner for your quest. If you are not a Christian, you'll still be getting a first-rate treatment of the subject, but you'll also be faced with trenchant challenges from a man who is very qualified to level them. The book manages to treat the subject with significant depth without losing the reader (like me) who demands simple explanations. This is by far the best history of philosophy I have ever found.
