This story just didn't speak to me; the plot line is common enough: A mail order bride arrives in a small town in time to find out that her intended husband isn't going to marry her. In fact, Cooper Thorne didn't even write the letters encouraging Delta Dandridge to come.
Delta, not having money to go back home, decides to stay. I can see that she was kind to everyone because she wanted a place to belong. But to me, she soon turned into a regular Pollyanna.
However, I couldn't believe she let Cooper into her room late at night with no promise of marriage. She couldn't say no or she wasn't thinking about her future; people in small towns were extremely moralistic and would have been shocked by her behavior. Had they known, she would have been shunned and that would have been the end of her Women of Vision organization.
I scratched my head throughout the book; some things didn't seem logical. Because I've read so many books with this general plot, I looked for something that would set this book apart ? that it had a different perspective or insight. I didn't find it and felt the story earned 3 stars.
The main characters had a lot of internal conversation with themselves that said the same things repeatedly.
