His boyhood was passed at home, his education being almost entirely conducted by his father, a cultivated English clergyman. Apart from his home training he had four years at the grammar school of Louth and the regular university course at Cambridge. The rectory children were a baker's dozen, happy, precocious, and most Of them story writers or poetizers at an early age.
