This submarine technothriller, written by one of Tom Clancy's co-writers, was very good. It's about a submarine on it's shakedown cruise. It is equipped with a revolutionary propulsion system that sounded very sci-fi to me at first, until a few months after I read it, I saw a documentary featuring this very technology to propel torpedoes at unheard of speeds. You could never outrun them. Scary. However, in this book, the technology is used on the submarine, itself. A Chinese sub is stalking it. They collide and must rely on each other to surivive under the Antarctic ice. They are awaiting rescue by the LASER team (Land, Air, Sea Emergency Rescue). The team must either raise the sub, or destroy it, in order to protect the military secret.
