Rock & roll instrumentals were at their radio heyday in the late '50s and early '60s, played by groups such as the Ventures and the Shadows along with solo artists Duane Eddy, Link Wray, and drummer Sandy "Teen Beat" Nelson. In 1959, Nelson recorded his first hit, "Teen Beat," followed two years later by the classic "Let There Be Drums."
