There are some books that you read once, put back on the shelf and there they sit, literally, for years, collecting dust. This is not one of those books. Anyone who has an interest in writing magazine articles, essays, short stories or even the more tedious works, including novels, would benefit from reviewing the pearls in this book. The author presents his ideas clearly and supports them with examples. My only disappointment after reading the book is two fold: One, that I waited so long in acquiring it. And two, that neither my high school nor my university instructors EVER (emphasis intended) provided me the essential tools, that every writer needs, with the clarity that Dwight Swain has in his book.
