Although Dr. Ginott's book has been out of print for many years, I still delight in rereading it periodically.
Recently retired from teaching, I can justly claim that this book made me the teacher that I became as a result of reading it. It spoke to me on an intellectual, emotional, and spiritual level. I hope that it helped me to become a better person, a better teacher, and, perhaps, even a "mensch."
Over the years, I have shared copies of this book with several new teachers as they embarked on an educational career. I believe that they have benefited from their exposure to Dr. Ginott's wisdom and wit. I know that much of what he teaches here worked for me in the day-to-day world of the classroom. Dr. Ginott's ideas are not dated in the slightest--they still resonate with today's teachers and parents.
I recommend Dr. Ginott's book to anyone who is thinking of becoming a teacher, anyone who already is a teacher, or any parent who seeks a better education for his or her child.
