Outstanding Modern Children's Classic
This deserves status as a modern classic. Lively and creative stories express important truths, and are really memorable (even 20 years later). One of my favorites is about an apprentice juggler, fearful of failure because he keeps reverting to a different rhythm, finally encouraged that his uniqueness has a special role to play. The hardcover version is well-illustrated, too (unfortunately, the softcover later printings are rather blandly illustrated).
Part of an excellent trilogy of books, this one is my favorite. Great for reading aloud, I'd guess suitable for ages 3 or 4 to at least 10 -- but of such creative quality that we also did several of the stories in readers theater format for our whole church congregation. I wish it were still in print -- I'd give one on every occasion for which a children's book might be appropriate!
