Matthew Poole (1624-1679) was an English Nonconformist theologian. He is best known for this work, Synopsis Criticorum Biblicorum, where he presents the view of 150 biblical critics (Catholic, Rabbinical, etc. ) Poole attempted to bring together all that had been written to illustrate the Scripture throughout the ages. -DNB. An important early English (Puritan) source of religious commentary. "An elaborate and much-esteemed work, on which the author spent ten years.
