Delicious
There isn't any new ground broken in this book, but as a delicious, candy-coated bon bon of surf imagery it can't be beat. It's like a hipster coffee table book, but there is enough iconic imagery (the classic Phil and Dewey bottom turns, the Murphy "Oxomoxo" spread, etc) and archival out-takes that even pathetic magazine hoarders will have to own this book. David Carson's art direction flavors every page, and the juxtaposition of images brings new life to the war horses. Add the complete text of Wolfe's "Pump House Gang," and you've got a beautiful book that it'll satisfy hard core typesand limp-wristed aesthetes as well.
